  • California Avocado Society to Host 110th Annual Meeting

    The California Avocado Society will host its 110th Annual Meeting on Friday, October 3 at the Lloyd-Butler Ranch located in Ventura County.

    The event will include:

    • Educational field presentations by grove managers, researcher and growers
    • Lunch
    • Award presentations
    • Opportunities to learn about innovative products and services

    The day-long event will take place from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The historic Lloyd-Butler ranch is located at 2317 Los Angeles Avenue, Oxnard, CA.

  • California Avocado Society Innovations & Insights Field Day, June 3

    On June 3, the California Avocado Society will host an Innovations and Insights field day from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Limoneira Ranch located in Santa Paula, CA. Presentations will take place in the field and be followed by a catered lunch.

    The day’s topics include:

    • Pests and Diseases — Ben Faber, UCANR
    • Anatomy and Nutrition ‚ Danny Klittich, Mission Produce
    • Integrating IPM, Pesticide Resistance and Cover Crops for Beneficial Insect Support — Bodil Cass and Hamutal Cohen, UCANR
    • Drone Use for IPM — Briana Layfield, Ag-Bee

  • Avocado Food for Thought Fertilizer Workshop, Feb. 15

    Presented by the California Avocado Society, the California Avocado Commission and the UC Cooperative Extension, growers are invited to attend this “Get Down – Fertilizers” seminar that will cover fertilization best practices and how to read water and soil reports for California avocado groves. Participants may opt to attend in person or via Zoom. Those who prefer to participate virtually can register for the session on Zoom.

    The session will cover:

    • How to choose fertilizers
    • Best practices for different fertilizer application methods — venturi, water-powered, batch tank, electric-powered, etc.
    • Chemical properties of various fertilizers
    • How to read and understand water and soil reports

    Dr. Danny Klittich, director of agronomy at Mission Produce will present information related to fertilization. Dr. Ben Faber, of the UC Cooperative Extension, will discuss water and soil reports.

    Those that wish to attend in-person can meet at the United Water Conservation District offices (1701 N. Lombard ST., Oxnard) from 10 a.m. to noon on February 15, 2023.
